There are two (2) scholarship programs available to the youth of the State of Indiana.   The programs are the Evan S. (Red) Stuart Memorial Scholarship Award and the Charles (Bud) Fridlin Scholarship Award.

This function is established by the IS USBC BA Board for the specifications delegated to the Scholarship Committee. The committee is defined per the IS USBC BA Management Development Plan.

The Scholarship Committee shall have the responsibility to select recipients for all scholarships, amounts for each as suggested by the Finance committee, selection criteria, and recommend changes and/or improvements to the function.

Number of Scholarships

a.      The IS USBC BA will award one (1) Evan S. (Red) Stuart Scholarship annually, in an amount to be established by the IS USBC BA board as recommended by the Finance committee.

b.      The IS USBC BA will award one (1) Charles (Bud) Fridlin Scholarship annually to a qualified candidate in each District of the IS USBC BA, in an amount to be established by the IS USBC BA board as recommended by the Finance committee. If all Districts do not have qualified candidates submitted, the committee may award “at-large” scholarships to take their place. The maximum number of scholarships is equal to the number of Districts.

Application forms will be made available to all interested parties by request from the committee chairman and/or the IS USBC BA Association Manager. In addition, each District Director will be requested to distribute the applications to the local associations (BA, WBA, YBA & merged) and all bowling centers within the immediate district.

Evan S. (Red) Stuart Memorial Scholarship.

            Section 2. Eligibility.
                  a. All applicants must meet the following requirements:
                            1. Must be a male bowler and a member of a USBC Association.  (YBA or merged)
                             2. Must be a high school senior.
                             3. Must plan enrollment at an Indiana college, university or institution offering a Bachelor degree program or enrollment at an Indiana institution offering an Associate degree program.
                             4. Planned enrollment must be for the fall semester or quarter immediately following high school graduation. 
                              5. Must file the proper application as furnished by the IS USBC BA Scholarship Committee.
                               6. Must have Amateur status in all Athletics.

            Section 3. Selection will follow the criteria as established and administered by the IS USBC BA scholarship committee with the scholarship being awarded to the highest ranking applicant.

            Section 4. Continuation of the Award.
            The scholarship shall be renewable annually for a maximum of three (3) years. In order to be eligible for the renewal, the student must:
                 a. Maintain a good academic standing, as established by the IS USBC BA scholarship committee, based on the submitted application.
                 b. Maintain continuous enrollment in each ensuing academic year.
                 c. Maintain a proper code of conduct at all times.

Charles (Bud) Fridlin Memorial Scholarship.

            Section 1. Specifications.
            The committee shall provide one (1) scholarship annually for each of the nine (9) districts of the IS USBC BA that have an application submission. A maximum of one (1) At-large scholarship may be awarded if applications are not received from each district. Each scholarship shall be non-renewable and for an amount, annually established by the committee, from funds recommended by the Finance committee and approved by the Board.

            Section 2. Selection Criteria.
                 a. Any graduating Senior in the State of Indiana certified and bowling in a certified USBC league at the time of the application submission is eligible for selection provided they meet the following:
                      1. Must be a High School Senior.
                      2. Must plan to enroll in an accredited school of higher education.
                      3. Planned enrollment must be within one year following high school graduation.
                       4. Must file the proper application as furnished by the IS USBC BA Scholarship Committee, completing all information requested and file it with the IS USBC BA Association Manager prior to March 1st of their Senior year.
                        5. Submit a hand written essay of 200 words or less with the application describing the specific education plans.
                  b. Selection will follow the criteria as established and administered by the committee with the scholarships being awarded to the highest ranking applicants. The selection criteria and point system shall be maintained by the Executive-director and provided to the Committee Chairperson each year and shall be the soul property of the committee.

Awards Specifications.

Section 1. Presentation of Awards.
                   a. The awards will be sent to the school specified by, and in the name of, the winner after verification of registration and enrollment. The awards will be divided equally for use in each semester or quarter with the school being informed as such.
                    b. Should the students leave the school at any time for any reason during the year, any and all unused funds shall be returned to the IS USBC BA, and the school so instructed. In this event, the students will become ineligible for any future IS USBC BA scholarship awards.

            Section 2. Notification to Recipients.
            The chairman shall be responsible to notify all individuals that submit an application of whether they have be selected or not.

            Section 3. Recognition of Recipients.
            The recipients will be invited to attend the Sunday banquet held in conjunction with the Annual Jamboree, at which time they will be introduced as recipients of the IS USBC BA scholarships.
